Philip is the CEO of the Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network , a company established with funding from the Technology Strategy Board to help drive innovation in the sector.
Philip received a BSc in Physics from the University of Bristol in 1971 and a PhD in Radio Astronomy from the University of Cambridge in 1975, where he continued as a postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cavendish Laboratory. He then embarked on a career in industrial R&D in radio and communications systems, culminating in his appointment as Chief Scientist, Europe Middle East and Africa for Nortel, a position he held until leaving the company in 2006.
Philip was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1996.
